Background Information:
Cam is an adventurous individual who loves hiking and finding new places to eat. He has never broken any bones or gotten into a serious accident, Cam is an overall healthy individual.
Presenting Concerns:
Recently Cam has been feeling quite anxious and has difficulty sleeping. He often has flashbacks to an event where his hiking partner was air-lifted to the hospital after a nasty fall that almost resulted in his death. It has been 2 weeks since that incident however Cam has avoided going on hikes or traveling outdoors. Family members have raised concerns about Cam cancelling plans and avoiding social interactions. He avoids conversations about travelling or hiking, and has persistent feelings of guilt when someone brings up his hiking buddy or the event.
With the provided information, what disorder would you diagnosis Cam with and why? What are the next steps and what treatment options would you suggest?
